Buffalo Niagara Marriott, Buffalo, NY

September 18-19, 2020

This year's Conference on Case Study Teaching in Science will take place on September 18 and 19, 2020, at the Buffalo Marriott Niagara in Buffalo, New York. Hosted by the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science, the conference offers hands-on workshop sessions for both the beginner and the advanced case study teacher. Program details can be accessed using the left-hand menu.

Program Schedule

The fall conference takes place over two days, a Friday and a Saturday, and features a plenary session as well as hands-on workshops in a series of concurrent tracks. We are currently working on putting the program together for the 2020 conference. In the meantime, please see the 2019 conference program schedule to get a sense of the types of workshops we typically feature.

Our speakers and workshop facilitators hail from all over the country and have years of experience teaching with case studies. The 2020 roster of speakers will be announced soon. In the meantime, the 2019 conference speakers page will give you an idea of the background of the people we typically invite to lead the conference.

The registration fee TBD (2019 was $700.00), which includes a buffet lunch and morning/afternoon coffee breaks on Friday and Saturday as well as the Friday evening reception and dinner. (Extra dinner guests need to purchase tickets for $50 each.) Registration will open around May 2020.

Poster Session

Share your creativity and your experience in writing and using case studies in science teaching. Case ideas, tips, and techniques are welcome.

The poster session will take place on Friday, September 18, 2020, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Anyone planning on registering for and attending the conference is invited to participate in the poster session. To participate, you need to submit an abstract (approx. 250 words) describing your proposed poster using our online form by 12:00 noon EST, September 1, 2020. We review and accept poster proposals on a rolling basis and encourage you to submit yours as early as possible. You will receive confirmation by email of our receipt of your abstract and we will notify you shortly thereafter as to whether we have accepted your poster. Plan on preparing a display to be mounted on a foam board (40" x 60"). The display should include a title or heading; your name and institution; the poster abstract; and figures, charts or text that will communicate the message that you want to convey. If possible, also plan on bringing with you 80 copies of handout material that summarizes the poster, and/or provides a list of references, and/or offers information related to the poster.
